Online since January 25, 2001, Civil War St. Louis was founded by D. H. Rule (Deb Houdek Rule) and G. E. Rule to share information and our fascination with a lesser-explored area of US Civil War research.

Research that started for the pure enjoyment of exploration has led to a number of breakthroughs, books, and articles. Sultana: A Case For Sabotage, available in print and ebook at Amazon.com and other online booksellers, was first published in article-form in North & South Magazine in 2001, then featured in the History Channel documentary, Civil War Terror, and in 2014 will be featured in an episode of PBS History Detectives.

As well as our own research, numerous noted authors have generously shared their writing and research.
